De gemeente Purmerend heeft met de aankoop van het voormalig ABN-AMRO kantoor aan de Kalversteeg, hoek van de Koemarkt, een volgende stap gezet in de voorbereiding van het programma Binnenstad. Het programma kent diverse ambities om van de stad een sfeervolle huiskamer te maken waar mensen elkaar kunnen ontmoeten en waar voldoende voorzieningen zijn voor jong en oud. Het voormalig kantoorgebouw biedt ruimte om invulling te geven aan de eerste plannen uit het programma.
Het voormalig bankgebouw heeft zo’n 1200 m2 vloeroppervlakte en dateert uit 1978. Het gebouw ligt aan het centrale horecaplein de Koemarkt in het centrum van Purmerend. De bank heeft het gebouw tot voor kort als kantoor benut. Alle verdiepingen zijn nu ingericht als kantoorruimte, maar volgens het huidige bestemmingsplan zijn ook andere functies zoals wonen mogelijk op de verschillende verdiepingen. De overdracht vindt plaats per 1 september. Daarna wordt bekeken, afhankelijk van de functies die erin komen, of er nog verbouwd moet worden.
Plek vóór de stad
Wethouder Eveline Tijmstra: ‘Uit alle gesprekken met de stad blijkt dat er behoeft is aan maatschappelijke voorzieningen in de binnenstad. Wat de exacte invulling gaat worden, gaan we de komende periode uitwerken. De benedenverdieping wordt in ieder geval een plek vóór de stad met ruimte voor maatschappelijke voorzieningen.’
Openbare functie
Voor het programma Binnenstad heeft de gemeente ruim 7200 inwoners, bezoekers, partners, diverse instellingen, ondernemers en grondeigenaren gesproken. Zo’n 1200 reacties daarvan zijn van jongeren. Uit de diverse gesprekken blijkt dat er veel behoefte is aan ruimte voor jongeren, een plek om de lokale producten in de schijnwerpers te zetten en aan culturele- en maatschappelijke voorzieningen. De gemeente ontvangt in september de sleutel van het pand en ziet met de aanschaf van het gebouw kansen om op korte termijn de functies van het ontmoeten en beleven te verstevigen.
Sfeervol en gastvrij
Het programma Binnenstad werkt aan een sfeervol, gastvrij en levendig centrum met verschillende functies zoals: winkelen, horeca, overnachten, evenementen, cultuur, ondernemen en wonen. Ontmoeten staat daarbij centraal. We streven niet alleen naar een functionele binnenstad. De binnenstad moet dé huiskamer worden voor zowel de inwoners van de gemeente Purmerend als voor de regio.
